In 1999 my father and I attended a Robbinex
workshop with the intention of learning what we needed to do
to position our company for sale in the future. We later attended
the same workshop in 2002 to confirm the steps we had taken to
date and to make sure we had all the latest information in implementing
our exit plan.
We recognized that it was important to sell when the cycle
was good as our industry can be rather cyclical. Also there
has been
consolidation in our industry and at some point we would be
a little fish in a big pond without the same purchasing power
as
our competitors and without the same deep pockets to handle
the next down turn.
Robbinex found us several industry buyers who had a keen interest
in our company. Through their negotiations they were able
to generate the best possible price as well as a buyer that
we
felt would service Dietrich Steel and its employees for many
years
to come.
